Inkscape

This week we have been leaning about Inkscape. Inkscape is a free Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator and CorelDraw.

We started off by leaning about what Inkscape is, how to run it, and all the Inkscape essentials we needed to know to get started creating our own awesome artwork!

On the second day we learnt how to create shapes, paths and how to use the pen tool - which are the building blocks we'll need to create more complex drawings. Here are some of our masterpieces.

American Waffles

This week the winning recipe was American Waffles that Elle found as part of her reading rotation activity.  We only had a 1/2 cup measuring cup and wanted to double the recipe so had to use a number of different maths strategies to work out the correct quantities.

We took turns measuring, adding and mixing the ingredients.
Shaun waiting very patiently for the next round of waffles.

They were so yummy that we licked our plates clean
 Can I have that bit?

Adventure Based Learning

 Magic Hand Shake
We silently selected a number between one and ten (inclusive). Then tried to find a
partner who has selected the same number as them, using only the left hand shake (no talking, no
miming or gesturing etc).

Gotcha
We started by forming a circle, facing inwards and standing side by side. Next we held our right hand out to our right side (about shoulder height) with our palms facing upwards. Next, we placed our index finger on our left hand onto the palm of the person’s hand to our left.

Everyone is now ready to start. On the command ‘go’, we  tried to catch the finger of the person on our right side. While also avoiding being caught by the person on our left. Next we tried again but this time with reversed hands.

Telescopic Texts

We have been learning how to add  improve our creative writing by using descriptive words.
We started off by reading the I made a tea story by Joe Davis on telescopictext.org. The site allows you to take short bits of texts and expand them in different ways and is a great way to improve both grammar and creative writing skills. Next we wrote our own telescopic texts starting with I went outside.

Click on the names below to read some of our stories.
